MAKING OF THE NINTENDO CAR
There are two reasons why I’ve decided to make the Nintendo Car. One is that it’s easy to make on Blender (since I’m a beginner) and the other is that it’s more of a statement rather than a design project. With cars becoming electric or hydrogen powered vehicles and autonomous vehicles on the rise, car companies are afraid that cars will become a simple means of transport. By that I mean, less on the personal possession side and more on to the public transport side. Taxis could become autonomous and will be more affordable, making the demand of owning a personal car less and less. When that happens, what will car companies do? If people start buying less and less cars, what would they do to create a difference in the autonomous car market? The badge on the front of the car becomes less and less relevant.
An example can be given from modern day Japan.
Take this “Japan Taxi” from Toyota. It’s not particularly an interesting car in terms of aesthetics and not may be the dream of every car designer. However, this car is tailored for a taxi and the seats in the back is super spacious. When I go out on the streets to catch a taxi, I look out for this car because, it is a hundred times more comfortable than others. So when I am looking to find this taxi, I am not looking for it because its from Toyota, or how the car looks, I’m looking for it simply because of the experience it provides.
So when considering a world where autonomous vehicles becomes mainstream, the experience of the user will be the primary aspect, not the things like the exterior or the brand when buying your own personal car. What I did with the Nintendo car is sort of an example where the experience of the user is the priority and the car company is designing a service rather than an end product.

I’ve had some fun creating the stage for the renders. I’ve used some free assets, such as the bricks and pipes and for the land, I’ve used some images from minecraft. Working on Blender is such a joy because you can create a sense of reality to an idea.
