LIVERY DESIGN FOR NO MOTION VITA

I had the pleasure of working with the No Motion racing team to come up with a livery for their Vita race car and though I had never done a livery for a car before, they had entrusted me to give it a go. Their request was to design something fashionable and unordinary in terms of car liveries and a design that enhanced the colors; black, gold and grey.

As a building point, I took inspiration from the logo and the racing team’s name. The logo of the team was designed beforehand and its main feature is the V, representing “victory”. The team’s name “No Motion” had originated from an incident when Hideki Mutoh, (co-founder and racing driver) stood still after a close defeat and so I’ve incorporated some of these aspects in the design process.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

After presenting the initial proposals, the team decided that they would want to go with “Proposal F” because the color scheme fits the team’s colors and the V translated well to the brand image. The next step was to create the actual livery. The team had provided me with the sponsor’s company logo and a request to provide two liveries, one in white and one in black.

One thing that I wanted to try to achieve was to make the sponsor’s logo fit in with the livery but at the same time, indicate what sort of company they are. The problem for me with liveries is that most of the times, you don’t know what Armaco or Oracle or BWT is, unless you are already familiar with it. And I think that not many people take the time and search “BWT“ on Google because they are wondering what BWT does. So in order to solve this problem, I researched each of the sponsor companies and tried to convey what they do through the liveries.

 END RESULT

Unfortunately, for some issues with the racing team, they’ve pulled out from the race for 2022 and this livery wasn’t realized. As a compensation, I was invited to the SuperGT race at Suzuka by the ARTA team which was a great experience. You can read about the experience from here.

I even made a blender model and was ready to dash out some cool livery images, but was a great experience either way. Though I had never done any liveries before, I really enjoyed making it and I was especially pleased with the way I represented the sponsor’s business.

Using this experience as a basis, I intend to design liveries onwards, which was something I’ve never considered before up until this point. The joy in designing liveries is that you get to create a visual for the whole car and it’s a similar sensation as to designing a car, not to mention that I LOVE motorsports! The notion that I get to contribute to motorsports in a creative way is truly a great feeling!
